We have recently learnt that Redrow and Hourigan Connolly, a consultancy firm, have begun a pre-planning application consultation. This is about a proposed development of 140 houses on green space in Baddeley Green which surrounds the Doulton Estate.

We are opposed to this development as it will ruin the beautiful views and cause untold disruption and misery for local people. The traffic situation on Leek New Road is already bad enough, with long queues at peak times and lots of traffic through the rest of the day. Local GP surgeries and schools are already stretched enough without having to factor in hundreds more residents.

This is a cherished bit of green space that local residents make regular use of. Many people have spoken about not wanting to be overlooked and not wishing to have new houses almost on their doorstep.

Using COVID as an excuse, there won’t even be a proper, face to face consultation about the matter.

We stand with the residents of the Doulton Estate and will fight against this development.

Local Labour activist, Dan Mazhar said: “It’s not right that residents are expected to accept that their green spaces will be destroyed. There will not even be a proper consultation with residentsThere are many other areas of the city with swathes of brownfield land which could do with development, so why here?”
