Tory-run Stoke-on-Trent City Council has blocked an attempt to pay carers a Living Wage.

Tory-run Stoke-on-Trent City Council has blocked an attempt to pay carers an £8.75 an hour Living Wage, in a move backed by City Independents on the council.

Stoke-on-Trent Labour had tabled a motion to amend the council’s pay policy to boost the wages of underpaid staff.

Our social care sector is in crisis, with severe consequences for the quality of care, public finances, personal assets, pressures on unpaid carers of family and friends, and delays to discharging patients from hospitals.

Now carers are being told they’re worth as little as £4.20 an hour by Tory and City Independent councillors.

Enough is enough. Only Labour can put Stoke-on-Trent back on the right track.
